Heat the Assembly

Lock the "non ball end" of the assembly into the bench vice. It's best to use one of the ends of the vice, so there is plenty of room to use the torch. Turn on the torch and heat the ball with the blue part of the torch flame. The solder should melt down quickly and might disapear into the ball. Keep the heat on for ten to fifteen seconds, then set the torch aside. If you work quickly (before the assembly can cool) more silver solder can be added through the gaps at each end of the ball. Try to fill the space, and no more. It's ok to re-heat and add more solder if you want.
DON'T TOUCH THIS ASSEMBLY YET!
It's going to be really (no, really) HOT. If you can't wait to test it out, dip the assembly in some cool water before handling.
