It all started with brass lamp balls. I noticed that certain lamp fixtures used threaded balls in place of nuts as an ornamental feature. My first attempt at making a socket joint used brass balls and a steel plate that was made from a shelf corner support bracket. The completed joint is far from useable. The steel plates were too dificult to fashion and the brass balls were too soft. I decided to drop the idea of steel plates and brass balls.
