Planning an Armature

It's always a good idea to make a scale drawing of an armature before construction. My drawings tend to be very simple, but sometimes become very involved. It depends on what I expect from the final result. Making sketches is the best way to start thinking about how the finished puppet is going to move, and what its limitations might be.

As you can see from the rough sketch (to the left), some things changed from the drawing to the armature. Lower legs and forearms are much wider than in the drawing. A more accurate sketch could have revealed this.
